Had previously built a chassis server with an Asus P8B MOBO for one of our subsidiaries and liked the end result. Loved the price and format of this guy here (with the same board already there) when I went to replace some huge, older in house servers. Added an E3-1270V2, 32GB of Kingston RAM, a 3ware 9750-4i, 2x 512GB Vertex4 SSD and some backup drives. Works well with Win2008 R2. Have seen reviews denoting success with Linux variants as well.I've been a big fan of Asus for motherboards on my personal PCs for years, but they really have done well across the whole gamut. They excel at the things they get into. Now using them for laptops, DVD drives, monitors, wireless routers, and finally server builds. It's always quality stuff at a good price point and I research things a lot before buying.I've done a lot of data center work as well and have installed hundreds of servers from the big guys (Sun, HP, IBM, Dell, etc.). While not at the same level of quality as that of say an HP DL3XX system, I can one of these for half the price of an equivalent performing HP. I have over a decade of experience with the Asus system boards and normally get 5 years or more out of them, so longevity is not a concern.From a setup/installation perspective, it was easier to get into and configure than an HP, although some of the durability items (e.g. the way things locked down to the board vs not at all) were not there. An HP would more likely survive a drop than this Asus would, so if that is a concern or in an earthquake heavy zone may want to reconsider. Cable routing and fan setup was nice and well thought out. I like the quad NIC setup in back as I'm about to setup NIC teaming.Did some burn in testing and it spins up well, fans adjust as needed when cranking and back down when done.Will say this though. Compared some results on a engineering workstation build that I did (Asus SaberTooth Z77 w i7-3770K). While the processor specs are very similar (Ivy Bridge, 3.5/3.9GHz, LGA1155), the i7/Z77 setup cranked out better performance (2.8 trillion CPU ops in 15m cycle vs 2.1 trillion on the E3). The Z77 MOBO is a bit pricier (5yr warranty though) with the i7 cheaper than the E3. So while this is a good little setup for a server, stick with a solid gamer board for end user purposes.
