This is my second Shuttle. I bought this to build a replacement for a top-of-the line Dell XPS 730 that was so over-engineered it couldn't get out of its own way. This machine, after adding an i7-930 processor, 8GB of ram and the NVIDIA Quadro 580 card, runs rings around a machine that cost 4x as much, with none of the heat, noise, bulk or weight. Cooling is excellent and the power supply has no problems keeping up with the processor, RAM, video card, 3TB of internal storage, Blu-Ray burner, 1394 card for video capture and an e-SATA drive on the side. Why buy off the shelf, when building is so easy and produces such great results? I couldn't be more pleased.Notes:-- Unlike some earlier Shuttle machines, there is no built in IEEE-1394 port or display output. You need a graphics card (and a 1394 card if you want that option.)-- There are 4 SATA connectors on the motherboard but only two 3.5" drive bays and one 5.25" optical drive bay.-- If you're new to building from barebones and in doubt as to what to put in it, go to the Shuttle web site and look at what they put into their complete systems starting with the same barebones box.

This was my first attempt at building out a bare bones system. In the past, I upgraded memory, swapped out video card etc. So, I thought I would take the plunge.Assembly was a breeze. Just enough room to move around within the chassis. Like others had noted, great step by step instructions. Really, the only challenge was understanding how to apply the thermal paste. A quick visit to youtube and I was ready to go.Esthetically, the case itself is simple, sturdy and elegant. A very small footprint and not too noisy. I don't need something that glows in the dark or a bunch on shinny plastic. Just give me what I need and spare all the fluff. I considered getting a pre-built system but the build quality put out by the major manufacturers seems so poor. Also, getting a pre-built PC with all the bloatware is just so painful to deal with. Having a clean install of Windows 7 is just awesome. Two weeks in and no blue screens of death or system stability issues.As far as performance, I've been very satisfied with the Intel X58 Express Chipset. My CPU is the i7 950 by Intel. Also added 8 GB of DD3 memory. I'm using this box primarily for video editing. Editing and complying HD video has been quick and efficient. I have a cheap OEM video card. It does the job. I feel confident if I do some hardcore gaming I can always upgrade.Bottom line, easy to build and a lot of flexibility for future expansion. If you are considering taking the plunge and building your own PC I'd highly recommended the Shuttle SX58J3. I'll never buy a off the shelf PC again.

Just put togeather this yesterday and very happy with how easy it was to build. Everything worked just out of the box, no need to have to run to fry's to pick up anything. I ordered everything from amazon. Playing SC2 with plenty of detail. Very happy camper.
